Not a good week for the theatre arts in the Twin Cities

First I heard on MPR that Theatre de la Jeune Lune is closing its doors. Then I found out that the University where I work is eliminating its Theater program. That totally blows.

Yeah. De Leune is a tragic loss. What school do you work at?

Our culture appreciates diversion, which is different from the arts. In an economic downturn, the first sector that takes a hit is the artistic one.

I'm not surprised by the THEA department closing. They have been marginal for years. Look at the sad theatre space on campus they had to work with. Besides, there are no other art programs on this campus. It was only a matter of time, sadly. At least the BUSN department is going strong... =/
