Sometimes NPR becomes a parody of itself

I heard this story yesterday on my way home from work.

There is something to be said for the study impliments of our lives.

"So, here is to things that last. Here is to things we can count on. Here is to things that wait for us by the door, unstinting in their service. Things that make us better humans. Here is to rubber boots."

That is a well written paragrpah. Sure, the story on the whole ranges into an emotional personification that I could do without, but I have a soft spot myself for useful and well made goods. Pratical often loses out to flash and new, and that is a shame.
